I've been informed by MikeB, that he demoted me for my Comic skins and my Aerosmith skin. It seems that my skins are threatening him in some(profitable) way, I gather, and I was told that this is the general admin opinion. I'm just interested in knowing if this is so.

I understand that Xav's comic skins were removed because of Marvel's complaints about them. It seems that fan art is squashed when there is a profit seen in the horizon. I personally thought they were great free publicity, and helped sales, not hurt them.

I understand that it might make a few people very happy to see me go. I guess if you speak your mind, you rile some people here(Sorry). I would like to thank a few of the people who helped me along the way and whose work inspired me greatly and whose kindness, I will always treasure. Namely, Adni18, Starone, and Diafragma. And, all others who helped me learn to skin along the way, thank you.

I don't want my work to get in the way of profit. I just thought I'd post here and try to get a general concensus from the admins before I delete my library and bugger off. I won't respond to flames and insults, so please don't bother. Although, I know some will, just for the fun of it.

Your skins were getting in the way of profit...boy, do you have an ego or what?!

Chas, this would be better handled by email.  This is not my understanding of the situation, and I really think you ought to seek some clarification..

Personally, I don't discuss these types of things on public forums.

Determining in public what may, or may not be a concensus of  opinion on one's conduct is not appropriate.

If you wish, contact any other Admin/wizop for opinion clarification...as is your right.

Public discussion of this sort isn't appropriate.

I for one like Chas's skins.

That said, the issue isn't profit. The issue is not getting sued into oblivion by some huge mega corporation.

The real problem though is that our system is too crude. That is, Journeymen, by design, get their skins submitted and bypass moderation automatically.

We tend to be very liberal in the fair use category we are thankful that Chas shares his works with the community. But we also want to be careful that we don't pass a certain threshold where, like I said, a mega corporation comes in and shuts us all down with a lawsuit or something.

I know something on this. I was personally sued by Entrepreneur magazine a few years ago because we made a game called Entrepreneur. And that lawsuit cost a couple hundred thousand dollars. This issue isn't about "profit" but rather avoiding getting sued into oblivion.

Since it's our livelyhoods (those of us at Starodck anyway) on the line when it comes to lawsuits, our VOLUNTEER moderators are just trying their best to walk that tight rope between fair use and safety.
